Susan Thixton learned the truth about pet food the hard way. Over 20 years ago, bone cancer took the life of her beloved dog Samantha. Then, things got worse. Susan's trusted veterinarian shared that the cancer was probably caused by chemical preservatives in Sam's dog food which was, at the time, the leading US pet food (one of the top five in the world today). Susan had a difficult time believing a pet food could contain dangerous chemicals just to extend shelf life, so she called the manufacturer. What the pet food company told her changed Susan's life. The manufacturer stated that the dog food would remain 'fresh' for 25 years.
From that day forward, Susan began learning about the pet food industry and sharing what she learnt with pet owners around the world. Her website, www.TruthaboutPetFood.com provides pet parents with an understanding of common pet food ingredients and the regulations that guide the industry. She attends regulatory meetings to advocate for the needs of pet owners.
Susan has published two books, ‘Buyer Beware - The Crimes, Lies, and Truth about Pet Food’, and co-authored a pet food cookbook ‘Dinner PAWsible’.
